Kia Ora, my name is Jake Tait. I have been heavily involved in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton’s Music and art scene for around 11 years and one of my passions is to see it continue to develop and grow. I have been involved in Film and Media throughout those years on many different projects. Recently I had the good fortune of being involved in the “Sunny side of Ngongotaha” project which saw the completion of a 6 part web series. I did the sound, foley and most of the music for that project. This work has led me to have discussions with local film makers who are either interested in their works being added to mine or just want to learn more about the often overlooked music and sound aspects of the industry. I absolutely love what I do as a composer and have worked in the audio engineering and production sides of music for over a decade. Recently I have been trying to work on my skills developing trailer music. I have several available for licensing on my Songtradr account that I will link below. I look forward to working with some of our incredible local film makers.

Industry Experience

The Volume Collective:

I was involved in setting up The Volume Collective, a collective which specialised in
recording and producing filmed live music performances and interviews (as series called "In The Fridge". As part of my role, I volunteered time to teach and help young students how to become involved in video production,
music content and podcasting. The organisation acted almost as a network hub for
musicians and students to begin working on projects together as well as connecting them
with like minded artists from around the country.

Free Fm:

I worked at FreeFM for over two years where I had the privilege of working and involving
myself in several different local communities and immersing myself in much of their arts
and culture. I was also on a discussion panel at the CAMA Conference discussing my role
in the implementation of film technology within The Volume Collective and how many other
arts and community sectors could include these processes to better facilitate for their
communities.

Other Skills & Experience

Skills:

Audio Engineering, music production and mixing are my main skill sets and ones I have honed for over a decade in the music industry with several albums that I have produced being nominated or winning best album or best Maori pop album respectively.

Sound Design, Foley, Score Composing, Music supervision are skills that I have worked on more recently as in the last 7 or 8 years or so working on small film projects like the 48hours or "Lighthouse" a short film all the way to larger scale projects such as "The Sunny Side of Ngongotaha"

Management is a skill set almost exclusively developed as it relates to film through 48hour projects and the "The Sunny Side of Ngongotaha." As it relates to music I managed and ran a recording studio called The Fridge as well as the organisation The Volume Collective for nearly 5 years.
